Communications has been my field of practice and study. Jewelry making offers me another avenue of expression. Prior to my engagement with this art form, mass communications; television, film, radio, print and the cybernetic worlds have been the focus of my interest and pursuit. Combined these venues give me the opportunity to look for the—mutuality—that I believe to be the core of “com•mun•ication,” and of even greater importance to me “com•mun•ity.”
While my formal work and studies place me in a global environment featuring electronic messages, I was raised in the home of a graphic artist/designer/illustrator, and a home artist. Our private world was rich with art as a means of expression and communication. My father provided all tools available to practice and imagine 2 and 3 dimensional arts. My mother took the items in our house and yard and turned them into art. Both parents patiently nurtured in all six of their children the possibility of expression and communication of mutuality through the arts.
